A new musical play for St Mary’s by Geoff Oliver

During Drama Week this year, 21st – 26th April 2008, our school will present five performances of a brand new musical play – The Disenchanted Fairy.
In the Harry Potter stories, Harry enters the magical world of Hogwarts through platform 9¾ of King’s
Cross Station. This platform is the ‘portal’ or door into another dimension – a parallel world. Now suppose St.
Mary’s had its own portal into another world. This is the basic premise of our play, The Disenchanted Fairy.
Griselda, a new SMCC student, enters the school on the first day of term through the wrong entrance, and
finds herself in a parallel world which looks like St. Mary’s but is really a school for fairies. In The Fairy School
she struggles to fit in, to be accepted by her classmates and the fairy teachers, who all see her as clumsy, awkward
and lacking all the skills and graces of a real fairy, especially seeing that she has no wings and cannot fly.
|
Our play tells of her difficulties and how she wins the hearts of her schoolmates and they eventually unite
in helping her to pass her most difficult test – her flying exam.
Our play has been written by our former drama teacher, Mr Geoff Oliver, who has returned to SMCC to
direct the show, and has songs and dances with the music written by our own students.
