Class-based Service Reflection
4B: On realizing that the children were happy despite their disabilities, our students reflected on their own attitudes. They realized that healthy persons like them have some responsibility to the society.
4C: Before this visit, I did not care about the handicapped or the one in need I met during daily life. I don’t think I should take up the responsibility to take care of them as they are not normal people like us, it may be a hard job to get along with them. But after this visit, I think the distance between us has decreased.
4F: This service offered us a valuable opportunity to have deeper understanding towards the living conditions and difficulties of refugees. The organization had provided us a lot of cases with different social roles included in them, which gave us a broader view to know more about the difficulties faced by refugees.
5B: We regard this experience at Crossroads an entirely different experience of community service. It includes a lot of things that we haven’t learnt from class or even services in the past. We have experienced in knowing more about what concretely charity organizations do.
5C: We have learned how they strive to live independently like many others in the city, and they have also explained to our students how their overcome their limits in their daily life, the have given us a clearer picture on the group of physically-handicapped in our society.
5E: Students shared the point that mentally retarded students also have their own strengths, such as knowing how to draw national flags of different countries, giving different responses to cope with the situation, etc. They also deserve our appreciation and respect.
5F: Through the activities, we have learnt that patience and love is exceptionally important when getting along with babies and young children. The activity serves as an invaluable experience, arousing our awareness and attention towards orphans in the society who are immensely needing our helping hand.
