  • Place the mouse pointer on the desktop and click the right mouse button to bring up the menu.
  • Select "Properties"
  • Select the "Settings" tab

  • Drag and slide the resolution bar to set the resolution accordingly.
  • Normal view: 1024x768
  • LCD Projection: 800x600
  • Adjust color quality (no. of colors) if necessary
  • To adjust refresh rate, press "Advance" -> "Monitor" -> 72 Hertz or 75 Hertz.

    Office XP File Locations

    Select the default location for Office XP software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) to look for your documents.

  • Start "Word" or other Office XP software. Select "Tools", then "Options".
  • Select "File Locations" tab. Highlight "Documents" and press the "Modify" button.
  • Enter "U:\" in the space next to "Folder name". Press "OK" to confirm. Remember to exit from "Word" and start "Word" again to make it take effect.

    Windows Explorer Settings

  • Start "My Computer" by clicking its icon.
  • Select "Tools" and then "Folder Options".
  • Go to "General" tab, check "Use Windows classic desktop" and "Use Windows classic folders". Click "Apply".
  • Go to "View" tab, check "Display the full path in title bar", uncheck "Hide file extension for known file types".
  • Click "Apply".
  • Click "Like Current Folder" and then "OK".

    Acrobat Reader / Acrobat Writer

    We are required to initialize the language interface to be used before you use Acrobat Reader / Writer for the 1st time.

    Just click the "Acrobat Reader / Writer" icon to start the program. A menu will come up and ask you to select "English" or "Chinese". Select the interface you want and "Acrobat Reader" will then start.

    Exit the "Acrobat Reader" after initialisation. (by selecting "File", "Exit")

  • To convert documents (Word/Excel/PowerPoint/ or actually any printouts) into PDF format. Just print it using Acrobat Writer or Acrobat Distiller as the Printer. You will be asked about the document name and the location to save the PDF file.
  • Acrobat Distiller is used to output Special Chinese Characters.

    Use of USB Removable Storage Device
  • Plug in the USB device. If the device is functioning, a USB device icon will appear on the taskbar.
  • Under "My Computer", a new drive letter will appear.
  • Just save & retrieve files to / from the storage device like any other disks.

    To remove the storage device from the workstation, you MUST stop the device by following the steps below, otherwise the data or the disk may be corrupted.
  • Double click the USB icon on the task bar
  • Select the drive letter of the device and press "stop".
  • Press "OK" to confirm.
  • You can remove the storage device when a message indicating it is now safe to remove appears on the task bar.
