Community Service Scheme 2016 17

  • Preamble
  • Following the footsteps of our foundress, St. Magdalene, all students in St. Mary’s are expected to take part enthusiastically in our community service scheme.
  • Upon successful completion of the schools’ requirement, students’ participation will be recorded in the testimonials.
  • Rudiments
  • Students should serve as volunteers to non - profit making organizations which arrange programmes to serve the community.
  • The minimum duration of services done is ONE hour.
  • The maximum number of services that can be recorded in the CSU logbook for the same target group is ONE per day.
  • Services done at school (Swimming Gala, Parents’ Day, Drama Week etc.,) will not be considered as community service. All talks/ workshops/ training/ preparation for service will NOT be counted as service.
  • A reflection should be written for every TWO services done.
  • Verifications
  • If the service is organized by an external organization, students need to get the stamp of the organization as a proof of participation, within 2 weeks after service. If the service is organized by school teachers/ social workers, students need to get the signature of the staff member in charge for endorsement followed by her/ his name.
  • Students need to submit the logbooks to the class teachers for verification before the deadline stated below. Late submission will not be entertained.
  • Services done after the submission date will be considered for the next academic year.

  • Special Recognition
  • Silver and Gold awards will be conferred to students at the end of each academic year
    for active participation in community service in that academic year. However,
    services done after last year’s cut off date (from 5th May 2016 in case of F. 2 – F. 6 students) will be considered for the current academic year. Silver and Gold awardees will be appreciated for their service with a certificate and their enthusiastic participation will be recorded in their testimonial.
  • The number of services that need to be completed in this current academic year to obtain a Silver or Gold Award are as follows:
